Our Client is hiring a Energy Storage Engineer (onsite) 18890 (onsite) Required: • Experience in engineering (5+ years); • Experience in substation or utility‑scale energy storage design and/or project management, with established expertise in power electronics, battery storage system design, substation design, or generation tie design; • Experience in Construction permitting and contracting; • Experience in construction methods, including foundations, trenching, electrical terminations and testing, and best safety practices; • Experience with technologies in energy storage including varying battery chemistries, power conversion units and DC-DC converters; • Experience with interconnection studies and GIA material modification adjustment (MMA) processes, particularly in WECC and CAISO; • Experience with utility-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS); • Experience in electrical engineering design (power systems, substations, or generation tie); • Experience with lithium-ion battery storage safety standards (UL1973, UL9540, UL9540A, NFPA 855, NFPA 70E, NEC, applicable IFC/IBC sections) or IEC 61215, 61646, 61730.
Responsibilities: • Plan, design, and execute utility‑scale energy storage augmentation projects, ensuring technical feasibility and alignment with organizational goals. • Perform detailed engineering across electrical, structural, and civil aspects of battery augmentation projects. • Manage multiple high‑volume projects concurrently, coordinating with Engineers of Record, Project Managers, and permitting, procurement, interconnection, and construction teams. • Prepare and oversee technical scopes of work for incorporation into contract documents and project execution. • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams and suppliers, providing engineering oversight, problem resolution, and integration of major equipment. • Conduct technical and market analysis to support energy storage strategies, identify value engineering opportunities, and evaluate emerging technologies. • Communicate effectively with leadership and stakeholders, maintaining project progress visibility and ensuring customer‑focused solutions. Preferred • Experience with Solar/PV Engineering and/or Construction experience (3+ years); • Experience in one or more of these areas: Power electronics, Battery storage system design, Substation design, Generation tie design; • Experience with energy storage technologies, including battery chemistries, power conversion units, and DC/DC converters; • Experience with lithium-ion battery storage safety standards (UL1973, UL9540, UL9540A, NFPA 855, NFPA 70E, NEC, applicable IFC/IBC sections); • Experience with IEC 61215, 61646, 61730.
Responsibilities • Support design phase and engineer major components for large-scale energy storage projects; • Recognize inconsistencies in engineering drawings, take corrective action, and strive for better design quality and efficiency; • Identify and resolve errors in engineering studies and suggest future solutions; • Understand specifications for major equipment purchasing, ensure clear communication, and propose solutions; • Understand permitting requirements, propose solutions to legal challenges, and recommend site design improvements; • Handle other assigned duties as needed; • Travel 25% of the time for project specific duties.
