Principal Engineer Requirements: • Experience in designing transmission lines, particularly at high voltage (115kV and above), with specific expertise in 230kV, 345kV, 500kV, and 765kV lines (7+ years); • Experience with FERC Order 1000, including participation in competitive RFPs for transmission projects; • Experience in designing HVDC transmission lines; • Experience in commercial strategy and contract negotiation within the transmission space; • Experience in ISO (Independent System Operator) requirements and emerging industry issues, such as wildfire mitigation strategies; • Experience working closely with the Early Stage Project Manager, NEET Development, and other stakeholders to influence project requirements and scope; • Experience managing Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EOR) entities in the context of transmission projects.
Responsibilities: • Work with the Early Stage Project Manager to define and influence the project requirements and scope in collaboration with the Client’s Transmission Development Group; • Manage EORs and support narrative and commercial strategies for FERC 1000 competitive transmission project proposals and greenfield projects for the Client’s affiliates; • Work with the client’s Development, Early Stage PMs, and other stakeholders to ensure project alignment and successful execution; • Maintain an understanding of ISO requirements and emerging issues, such as wildfire mitigation, to guide project development; • Utilize competitive RFP experience in the transmission space to support project proposals and execution strategies; • Engage in commercial strategy discussions and contract negotiations to secure favorable terms for transmission projects; • Apply expertise in high voltage (HV) and extra-high voltage (EHV) transmission line design to ensure successful project outcomes.
Transmission Line Principal Engineer Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil/Structural Engineering. • Experience in the development, design, engineering, and construction of high-voltage transmission line projects (7 years); • Experience in transmission line design, including the ability to understand one-line and three-line diagrams, general arrangements, plans and profiles, and other standard deliverables; • Experience with industry-standard tools such as PLS-CADD, AutoCAD, Microsoft products, and Primavera; • Experience in project management principles, with a preference for candidates holding PMP or P.E. certifications.
Responsibilities: • Manage the design of transmission line projects from the early conceptual phase through construction and commissioning, ensuring that all deliverables meet project requirements and timelines; • Work closely with the Early Stage Project Manager, engineering consultants, and other stakeholders to define project requirements, secure necessary resources, and coordinate engineering deliverables; • Oversee the engineering design process, ensuring that it meets the technical standards and aligns with project goals. This includes coordinating the development of design criteria, drawings, and technical specifications; • Develop scopes of work, secure bids, evaluate proposals, and award contracts for engineering consulting services through the Integrated Supply Chain (ISC) Group; • Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting throughout the project lifecycle, addressing any issues related to design and construction to ensure successful project completion; • Ensure that all designs adhere to industry standards and best practices, providing value engineering where possible to optimize project outcomes; • Regularly update internal and external stakeholders on project progress, risks, and mitigation strategies, ensuring clear communication across all levels of management.
